Richmond classic rock radio station 96.5 THE PLANET was stationed just across the way from the Illbillys, on the median strip that runs down Monument Avenue. As you can see from the excitement radiating from the classic rock chick sitting at the table, it was pretty crazy over there. THE PLANET had erroneously yet understandably reported that a band called Grendel would be playing at the Illbilly location at Monument 'n' Malvern the day before, since Grendel HAD been originally slated to play there. What did happen to Grendel? All the Illbillys knew was that they now possessed the choice, covered location.
96.5 was a good neighbor to the Illbillys. No catcalls or rude comments (except those made by the Illbillys, who found themselves conveniently amplified) were made, and Jack made sure the station's representatives knew how to pronounce Illbillys before they left. They remembered, and reportedly said some very nice things on the air about the Illbillys later in the day.
