Part of the Stratford Grill's charming decor is this World War 1-era British Lee-Enfield SMLE, complete with bayonet, which the staff told me was frequently used on encroaching Yankees, which made me not only wonder how I got in the place, but also if a British rifle, representing people who are even more Yankeeish than those from the northern US (what are Yankees? People from the north who speak in clipped tones, think slavery was a bad idea and have a stick up their butt? Hel-LO! Sounds like the British to ME!), would really be the weapon to defend southern pride. Perhaps the creepy garden gnome standing to the left has all the answers, but I sure don't. |
