Memorial Day: Gateway to summertime. For the third straight year, the Illbillys were asked to usher in that most pleasantly insect-ridden of seasons in the Roxshire Subdivision of Midlothian, perched atop the Driveway de Dave, pointing out into a festive and patriotically decorated cul-de-sac.
Some 200 souls made their way through the blocked-off party area that afternoon and evening (a few in cars, crashing through the tables covered with delicious food, which seemed a particularly destructive way to celebrate the event, but then we all have our own different Memorial Day rituals): Happy children splashed through conveniently-placed collections of water, played a variety of low-impact sports or flung themselves carelessly about. In the end, the Kaiser and wicked Emperor Hirohito were vanquished, and all proud Americans went home to sleep the sleep of the just.
Pix of this event were taken by a dizzying number of people, including Morgan, Luanne, Rachel and Peter.
