Toward the end of their last set of the evening, a lady approached the stage with a napkin in hand. This usually means a request (and is a nicer way of making a request than coming up and standing patiently next to a mid-song Illbilly, waiting for him to take notice of you so you can ask in person), which usually results in lots of shaking Illbilly heads, but this time, the executive decision was made to kick years of carefully considered Illbilly Policy* to the curb and give it a shot (possibly because the request was spelled correctly...and such penmanship!). As it happened, JB knew the words, Joe knew the licks, and Peter had a vague grasp of the chords.

*Illbilly Policy has long been to not play the most obvious songs that other area bands cover so prolifically (we're talkin' yer "Brown Eyed Girl," yer "Freebird," yer Jimmy Buffett, etc.), but there are certain unavoidable realities to playing live music in Central Virginia: Witness the Illbillys' performance of "Play That Funky Music White Boy" at their New Year's show @ Scott's place, 2006/07.
